Genji Shimada is a cybernetic ninja from Overwatch, formerly a carefree and privileged son of the Shimada clan, a powerful criminal empire.
His brother, Hanzo, seemingly killed him after Genji refused to participate in the clan's illicit activities. However, Overwatch intervened and saved Genji's life by rebuilding his body with advanced cybernetics.
While grateful for a second chance, Genji struggled to reconcile his new mechanical body with his identity. He left Overwatch to find inner peace, eventually finding guidance from the omnic monk, Zenyatta.
Through Zenyatta's teachings, Genji embraced his cyborg nature and found a new purpose. He returned to Overwatch as a powerful and skilled agent, wielding his cybernetics and katana to protect the innocent.
